Akers Passion for Music
Hillary Akers has always had a passion for music. Akers does not plan on going into the music business, even though her first love was music.
Coming from a family in which everyone plays an instrument, her brother being the number one base player in the state of North Carolina, it did not take Akers long to start working on her music career. Throughout her childhood, Akers learned to play all types of instruments like the piano, guitar and drums.
Even though she can play multiple instruments, Akers likes playing the piano more than any other instrument.
“Whenever I am in a bad mood, or crying, I take a seat at my piano and just play the bad mood right out of me.” Akers said.
As a junior in high school, Akers began working on a gospel CD. After completing her gospel CD, she fell in love with writing music, and plans on making more CD’s in the near future. Most people that write and play music are very good at reading sheet music, but Hillary is a bit different.
“I never learned how to play sheet music, I can just listen to a piece once and I can play it note by note, I would like to eventually learn how to read sheet music, but I love the ability to just hear a piece and play it.” Akers said.
Akers loves writing, singing, and listening to gospel music, but that is not the only type of music she likes to listen to. She enjoys country music, but her favorite artist of all time is the famous Stevie Wonder.
“My favorite song to play and sing is Superstition by Stevie Wonder. It is so relaxing and I just love the flow of his music.” Akers said.
Akers does not play music and make CD’s for fame; the love of music for her is more important than putting her name out there. No matter what her future holds, music will always be there for her.
“I’d like to keep writing and learning more instruments. I want to make another CD eventually, and no matter what job I have I want music to be a part of my life even if it is just a personal thing.” Akers said.
Akers, a soon to be graduate of UNCP, has a bright future with whatever she does, and music will always be an option for her.
